Home options consist mainly of single detached homes, with a mix of small apartment buildings and townhouses. With the majority of homes being occupied by their owners, Laurel provides a friendly and safe community for those looking for a peaceful and family-oriented environment in Edmonton.

The character of Laurel is exemplified by its calm ambience. This area is very quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, there are approximately 20 green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, like Meadows District Park and Silver Berry Park, and they are especially well-distributed, which makes it easy to reach them.

In contrast, there are no high schools in Laurel.

The favoured means of transportation in Laurel is often a car. It is convenient to access a place to park. In contrast, Laurel is not particularly transit friendly. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically around the corner. Traveling on foot is not especially feasible for house buyers in this part of Edmonton because running common errands is at times difficult without a vehicle. On the other hand, travelling by bicycle is convenient in Laurel because the cycling network is fairly good.
